Exhibition of the Silk Road and Creative Cities

The Permanent Delegation of the People’s Republic of China to UNESCO and the National Commission of People's Republic of China for UNESCO, in collaboration with UNESCO,  are organizing an exhibition under the theme of “The Silk Road and Creative Cities” at the UNESCO headquarters, Paris from 16 to 19 September 2014. This exhibition consists of four parts:

- Chengdu Pavilion of "The Silk Road and the Creative Cities";

- Maritime Silk Route, Sailing from Quanzhou;

- Selected Murals from Grasslands Silk Road “Tomb Murals in Inner Mongolia of Han Dynasty”

- Luoyang, an Intersection between Silk Road and China’s Grand Canal

This exhibition aims to highlight cultural exchanges that occurred along the Southern Silk Road between Chengdu and Southeast and South Asia. It also presents the theme of the ocean, and tells the story of the Maritime Silk Route by taking Quanzhou as its starting point and as an indispensable representative of these routes. Moreover, ancient Chinese murals of Xi’an Qujiang Museum of Fine Arts will be exhibited. The latter displays 10 panels from the Grasslands Silk Road in Inner Mongolia of the Han Dynasty showing the exchange during the Han Dynasty.

This Exhibition will be inaugurated officially by Ms Irina Bokova, the Director General of UNESCO and Ms. Liu Yandong, the Vice Prime Minister of People’s Republic of China on Thursday 18 September 2014.
