Nature's hidden languages of smell
Professor Karl von Frisch, famous for his discovery of the "language" of bees, recounts here some surprising facts about the sense of smell among insects and fish. Even in the "language" of bees, smell plays a vital role. Bee extracting nectar from a flowering shrub, can direct other bees in its hive to this food supply by "dancing". The others identify the tree or flower by smelling the odour on the scout's body.
